We know that every engagement is different but some things will stay the same across all projects. We trust you to accurately track your hours and days in Chronos and want to remove as much ambiguity as possible and ensure there is consistency when it comes to charging your time.
That is why we have prepared this list of guidelines, though please note that these would be superseded by any client policies or stipulations agreed upon at the outset of your engagement.
Research
Primary research: Fully chargeable at 30-minute increments
- Examples include interviewing subject experts or other relevant professionals, preparing or conducting surveys, or conducting field research
Secondary research: Not chargeable
- Examples include reading industry reports, reviewing databases or conducting general online research
Report and content review, development and delivery
Content and review calls with client teams: Fully chargeable at 30-minute increments
- This is applicable to calls with consulting firms or clients
Email communication with Hyphen or the client: Fully chargeable at 30-minute increments
- Examples include answering technical questions, sharing expertise, giving feedback on a document, etc.
Document/content review at the request of the client: Fully chargeable
- Examples include commenting upon and critiquing draft presentations, reports, etc.
Report/analysis/review preparation and delivery to client teams: Fully chargeable at 30-minute increments
- This includes the review of required documents to develop said report/analysis that exceeds the basic pre-read documentation
Pre-engagement reading to learn the basics and review of publicly available documents ahead of a client meeting: Not chargeable
- Examples include vision documents, priorities, prior-year efforts, etc.
Pre-engagement planning
Time spent exploring, defining and setting up a collaboration with clients and Hyphen: Not chargeable
- Examples include discussions held prior to agreeing on a collaboration, concerning the likes of project context and scope, and discussions about the engagement setup, expectations and deadlines
Time spent on organising logistics, organisational set-up, and contract set-up to start work: Not chargeable
- Examples include contracting process and contract-related calls/emails, meeting set-up efforts, time spent organising visas, travel, and other logistics, and reviewing Hyphen onboarding documents, etc.
Travel
Flights longer than 10 hours: Chargeable at Hyphen’s discretion; contractors will only be permitted to charge at half their daily rate and as long as client work is done
Flights shorter than 10 hours: Not chargeable unless pre-agreed by Hyphen
